The Project
Dronah XR is a digital visualization project that uses augmented reality (AR) to preserve and present historical relics, artifacts, and monuments in a highly interactive and engaging way. Developed in Udaipur, Rajasthan, the project showcases over 200 sqkm of heritage spaces, offering visitors an immersive AR experience of cultural treasures via a mobile application.
The Challenge
Amidst the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the challenge was to create an interactive, gamified experience that would make heritage spaces accessible and engaging to visitors. The goal was to boost information retention while preserving cultural and architectural sensitivity. Technologies like AR, projection mapping, and QR code recognition were combined to create a low-cost yet impactful platform. The difficulty lay in balancing high fidelity with minimal complexity in the digital models, all while embedding interactive features like audio tours and points of interest.
The Solution
To maintain architectural detail while minimizing complexity, we implemented advanced mesh modeling techniques. The mobile app includes 3D-scanned artifacts and paintings, which users can visualize in real-time AR. Visitors can explore the heritage site interactively, enjoying features like guided audio tours and a holomap of points of interest. Available on Android and iOS, the app provides a free and easy-to-use platform for anyone around the world to experience these treasures.
Cost, Time, and Efficiency
Dronah XR uses cost-effective AR and XR technologies to create high-impact digital experiences. The development process included 3D scanning and mesh optimization, allowing for the rapid creation of interactive content without sacrificing visual quality. The project also generated extra revenue by improving accessibility for remote visitors and offering an innovative tool for tourist destinations.
